Dog Journal 18 - Bug Bites

No! I hate being so itchy! I don't know whose idea this was, but these buggies are biting me bad. Every time I run through the yard, they start chasing me. I can't sit still long enough to sniff a leaf or else I'm gonna get the bug bites.

There doesn't seem to be any way to scare them away either. I tried barking at them, biting them, and whapping them with my tail, but nothing works. They come right back and start buzzing around my ears again, and then they bite my nose too. I saw a big one stick his pointy little sticker right into me and bite. They're just meanies.

If that wasn't enough, they started biting my belly, and that's when the itching really got bad. Have you ever tried to scratch your own belly? It's really hard to do. All I can do is lick my bites and chew them a little to help get rid of some of the itch.

Which is what got my friend's attention. I'd asked my goodest buddy how he handles it, to which he had advised not to go outside until it's too cold for the buggies to buzz around anymore. I can't do that, I gotta run and play and do puppy things! So I asked our pal what I should do and he had his own ideas.

My friend wanted me to sit still while he put the jelly on me, but I can't do that, especially right now when my pal thinks I'm a piece of toast that needs to be buttered and snacked upon. I never liked anything being put on me, especially when it seems like I might be getting ready to get a bath. No baths, not even risking it. So I struggled to make my friend understand there were to be no baths today.

However, when he put the stuff on my belly, it felt a lot better than before. Some of the itching went away, not all of it, but it felt better. So maybe it wasn't so bad of an idea. But what will happen when the buggies come back for seconds?

I don't really know what to do in that case. I'll think of something while my friend rubs my belly to help with the itchies. This is the only nice part about the whole thing. I get to hang out with my pal and relax on his lap while I get the itchies rubbed off of my belly. Not what I had in mind for a nice afternoon when we could be playing, but it's pretty good. I just gotta think of a way to get back at those biting buggies.
