Dog Journal 7 - Teething Time
There's just something comforting about chewing this leash. This has to be the third one today, almost all the ones my pal has left laying around. I'm not hungry or anything, it just makes me feel like my friend is close with me.
It gets really boring when my pal isn't here. Of course I still have my lazy buddy to hang out with, but he doesn't want to play with me all the time. So I've got to come up with some ways to keep myself calm and avoid thinking about how my friend isn't here with me.
You know, there isn't really anything special about this leash, it was just the first thing I could find that smelled like my pal. In fact, I think there's some sneakers in the kitchen that smell even better and those have got to be way chewier. I dropped the leash and started dragging the shoe around by the strings. Just a few nibbles on the string, no one should ever notice.
But nibbling on the shoes just wasn't as great as I thought it should be. Perhaps the shirt I saw on the bed would be nice. It's got a few of those little buttons on it that need to be removed. I love the way they crunch when I chew them really good.
When I moved the shirt, I found the handy remote control. I love this thing, it's one of my favorite thingies to nibble. But my friend is always hiding it or putting it up way to high for me to reach. So finding it here is definitely a fortunate turn of events.
I was just beginning to chew the corner off of the remote when I heard my friend arriving. I know when he's here because his footsteps are unique to my ears. Fine tuned to detection. The bad thing is that he's gonna be mad if he finds me chewing up all these things. I've gotta think quick on what to do.
I had to hurry, the keys were jingling in the door and my friend was going to walk inside any moment now. There was no time to lose, I started stuffing the remote in my bed, and next was soggy shirt. I don't know if I'm gonna have room for the leash though. Probably just have to lay on top of it. And what about the sneakers? He shouldn't notice the little tidbits are missing.
By the time my friend strolled in, I was laying on top of a pile of stuff, most of which was crammed in my bed. My friend just smiled at me and went about his normal business as usual. He didn't notice anything. And that's good. Let's keep it that way, just between you and me.
