Rocky Adventure - The Adventure Seeker
Today was the day. My little shadow pupper has been asking and asking me about this particular door and today we're going to find out why it's always shut up tight. I'd already warned him about it, to stay away from such a place. But he keeps on insisting that I reveal such mysteries to him. In my opinion, some things are better left unknown. Some pups just have to learn the hard way. Stubborn puppers.
"Alrighty," I ruffed, "you're going to have to follow me and step where I step and everything."
"Yipp!" my little shadow barked.
"And don't sniff anything!"
"Nip?"
"You heard me the first time, now stay close," I scolded.
The old man was already rustling around down there, leaving the door cracked just enough so he'd have a quick escape just in case. It's been many a full moon since I've been in the basement, and I had hoped to make it many more. This is not the case. I'm just going to have to show this pupper why we don't want to go down there.
Nudging the door open just enough to squeeze through, I hopped down the first couple of steps before looking back to make sure my shadow was keeping up. He was hopping along with my tail, licking the webs off his face because he'd already tried to sniff something. Gotta learn sometime.
We crept quietly down the steps all the way to the cold floor of the basement. Big boxes were scattered around the room along with other strange objects. Some of the old slumbering vacuums were in hibernation as well, fortunately dreaming some electric sleep and not hunting for puppy dog tails today.
The old man wrestled with some boxes in one of the corners while I led my shadow through the dimly lit maze. The boxes were tall enough to keep a straightforward path obscure, making it easy for us puppers to get trapped in a tight situation.
We wandered our tails to the furthest point I could find in hopes that it would satisfy the curiosity of my friend. What we found there only intrigued him further though. Instead of us turning right back around and leaving this creepy place behind, my little shadow started investigating the big machine.
It was warm outside, so this thing was asleep right now. It's only awake for the winter, at least I think that's the case. I don't know, I never really wondered much about it until now. After all, it was just a big huge noisy thing that never went anywhere. It just rumbled and made funny sounds. Oh, and is sort of creepy I might add. That's probably because it looks like it could fit a whole pack of puppies inside of it. And I don't want to be around when it wakes up hungry.
"Psst," I whispered, "let's go already."
"Nawp," my friend argued and sniffed up some more webs into his nose.
Then the sneeze came. It was just a little one coming from a tiny shadow, but it was enough to wake up the slumbering machine. There was a whoosh of air as it sucked in a deep hungry breath and it's eyes began to glow as things groaned and hissed.
"Yipes!" my shadow yelped and bounced away with wide eyes and frizzly tail.
The machine gurgled more as my shadow fled before me, bouncing off the box maze as he struggled to find the escape. Now you can see why the old man wisely kept the door ajar for a quick escape. As for the maze, we bounced around and eventually got lucky enough to find the stairs which we climbed as swift as cats chasing a mouse. My friend almost rolled back down halfway up, but I was right behind pushing him up to catch the next step. And we made it to the top safe and sound with paws and tails intact.
"Now do you see why we don't go down there?" I huffed and puffed out of breath.
"Nip whip?" my little shadow looked around nervous but excited, "Dood it 'gan!"
